MIMMO PALADINO

Cavaliere rosso, 2007

bronze on iron base ed. 1 of 2 a.p.

cm.h. 183 x 36 x 106

Provenance: the artist

Mannequins are also paintings/theatrettes like those of de Chirico or Carrà. Paladino’s figures can communicate in their own way with unsettling muses, or pass the time in conversation with some metaphysical divinity. Perhaps they have belonged to the earth for millions of years as they do to the unconscious, it doesn’t make a difference. They now rise again for us to perform symbolic gestures, as if to remind us of a holy ritual.

Mimmo Paladino works with Christian Stein since 1999.

On view: Mimmo Paladino - Retrospective at Galleria Christian Stein, Milan 2019

Mimmo Paladino lives and works in Paduli and Milan. He is a leading figure in the Transvanguardia artistic movement and one of the many European artists who revived Expressionism in the 1980s. He is a prolific painter, sculptor, printmaker, and filmmaker. His first serious efforts, produced in the 1970s, drew on figurative aspects of Pop Art in brightly colored paintings, displaying an interest in myth and magic. His work embodies a dramatic expressionism that captures the primordial feelings of humanity.

Paladino's work is held in major public collections worldwide, including:

Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh; Tate, London; Kunstmuseum, Basel; Kunstmuseum, Dusseldorf; Berlin Neue Galerie; Fonds Regional d' Art Contemporain, France; Los Angeles County Art Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, New York; Australian National Gallery, Canberra; Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Setegaya Museum, Tokyo, Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Turin.
