This work expresses a poetic rich in symbolic references and variations of meaning within a well recognisable iconography. With clear irony and brutality, the artist suggests a genuine and critical account of the present, representing the historical and contemporary social conscience.

Paolo Canevari works with Christian Stein since 2002.



Paolo Canevari lives and works in Rome. Over the years, through the use of various media and techniques, including animation, large-format drawings, videos, and installations, his projects have developed a strong conceptual focus. By employing symbols, icons, and images that are part of the collective memory, his works often invite viewers into a direct confrontation.


His works appear in important institutions, including:

Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna, Rome; MART, Rovereto; Museion, Bozen; The Drawing Center, PS1 Contemporary Art Center and MoMA, New York; IMMA, Dublin; KW, Berlin; Parkview Green Contemporary Art Museum, Beijing. Pieces by Canevari are included in prestigious international museum collections such as MoMA, New York, the Fondation Louis Vuitton pour la Creation, Paris.
